The sketch made by Benjamin Franklin is called “Join or Die.” It represents the 13 colonies except for Georgia because Georgia didn’t contribute much and join the fight unless they got their way. The Powerful New England states are represented as one section. They are the head, which symbolizes leadership and the control center of the snake, and 13 colonies. The other states are sections of the snake. Another thing to notice is that if you turn the snake sideways the states are marked in the same order they appear on in the map of the USA. They curve like the maps edge does. Benjamin Franklin is representing the colonies together in the form, literally and figuratively, of a snake. He is saying to join this fight together as one with the colonies that make up a fierce animal like a snake, or to die.

    Benjamin Franklin's Sketch (2017-18)
Bella Henzler- Benjamin Franklin shows a sketch of a snake broken into 8 pieces. Those pieces represent the 8 states that had the biggest impact on breaking away from the British. The snake also says "JOIN or DIE" which means that all of the states need to join together or they will die apart.

    Benjamin Franklin's Sketch (2017-18)
Victoria Lifschitz - Benjamin Franklin's sketch depicts a snake cut into 8 pieces. One piece represents the New England colonies, and the rest of the pieces represent each of the Middle and Southern colonies, excluding Delaware and Georgia. The words "Join or Die" and the fact that the snake is cut into several pieces signifies that if the colonies do not join together they will be defeated by the British.

    Benjamin Franklin's Sketch (2017-18)
Clara Blackburn- Benjamin Franklin drew a sketch of a snake cut into 8 pieces. This represents the 13 colonies, with the New England colonies combined and Georgia excluded due to its governors relationship with the king. The words "Join or Die" written below the sketch make a clear statement. The broken snake represents how the colonies, though near each other, were separated. The words "Join or Die" mean that the colonies must join together or they will all die.
